Canada Flag Quilt Pattern

In celebration of Canada's 147th birthday, I thought I'd share my Canada flag quilt pattern.

Canada Flag Quilt Pattern

This Pattern uses 6 reds and 4 whites, a black binding and a maple leaf fabric on the back.
Each finished square is 2in x 2in for a total of 44in x 24in.

Decide which fabrics to use, and how they will be arranged.  Cut the single-coloured squares into 2 1/2in x 2 1/2in pieces.  Cut the triangle pieces into 3in squares, cut them diagonally, sew two  (1 red and 1 white) triangles together along the angled side, and iron.  For the stem pieces, cut 8 (4 red and 4 white) 1 1/2in x 2 1/2in rectangles, sew two (1 red and 1 white) together along the 2 1/2 in side and iron.  There will be a 1/4in seam allowance around the squares.

There should be 4 two coloured stem squares, 18 two coloured diagonal squares, 86 assorted white squares and 178 assorted red squares.

Layout all the squares on a large flat surface and sew them together in rows, iron and sew the rows together.  Try to make the corners ling up as much as possible.

Finish the quilt as usual.  Lay the back (face down) on a flat surface, spray the back with quilting glue.  Do the same with the batting and carefully place the front (face up) on top.  Make sure all of the layers are flat and allow to dry.  Quilt the pieces together, cut them to size, and add the binding around the edge.
